Blue Jackets Re-Sign Center Derek MacKenzie to a Two-Year, Two-Way NHL-American Hockey League Contract

COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Columbus Blue Jackets have re-signed center Derek MacKenzie to a two-year, two-way NHL-American Hockey League contract, General Manager Scott Howson announced July 1. As is club policy, terms were not disclosed.

He led the club and tied for first in the AHL in shorthanded goals (5) and ranked second on the Crunch in assists and was third in points.

"Derek is a true professional, who brings experience, leadership and depth to our organization," Howson said.

Atlanta's sixth pick, 128th overall, in the 1999 Entry Draft, he has registered 3-5-8 and 30 penalty minutes in 64 career NHL games. He made his NHL debut with the Thrashers against the Blue Jackets at Nationwide Arena on Apr. 12, 2002.
