Blue Jackets Sign Former Ohio State Defenseman Nate Guenin, Forwards Trevor Frischmon, Kyle Wilson
Trio of players sign one-year, two-way NHL-American Hockey League contracts for 2010-11 season
COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed defenseman Nate Guenin and forwards Trevor Frischmon and Kyle Wilson to one-year, two-way NHL-American Hockey League contracts, General Manager Scott Howson announced July 2. As is club policy, terms were not disclosed.
Guenin, 27, has registered two assists and six penalty minutes in 14 career NHL games with Philadelphia and Pittsburgh during his four-year professional career. Last season, he appeared in two games with the Penguins and combined to tally 5-13-18, 98 penalty minutes and was +11 in 68 AHL games with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and Peoria Rivermen, including 2-11-13, 35 penalty minutes and +14 in 27 games after joining Peoria. He has collected 12-49-61, 431 penalty minutes in 275 career AHL games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Peoria and Philadelphia.
The Sewickley, Pennsylvania native played two seasons with Green Bay of the United States Hockey League before being the third pick, 127th overall, of the New York Rangers in the 2002 Entry Draft. He played the next four seasons at The Ohio State University, registering 6-47-53 and 400 penalty minutes in 151 games from 2002-06. As a junior in 2004-05, Guenin earned CCHA Second Team All-Star honors after notching 2-12-14 and 136 penalty minutes in 41 games.
Frischmon, 28, registered four penalty minutes in three games with Columbus in 2009-10. He made his NHL debut at Chicago on March 28. He also tallied 7-18-25 and 34 penalty minutes in 74 games with the Syracuse Crunch, Columbus’ American Hockey League affiliate. He has spent the past four seasons with Syracuse and has collected 17-56-73, 139 penalty minutes and a cumulative plus/minus rating of +7 in 247 career AHL games. He has also added 6-12-18, 16 penalty minutes and was +4 in 31 career ECHL games with Dayton and Charlotte, including 3-5-8 and 24 penalty minutes in 20 playoff games to help the Bombers reach the 2007 Kelly Cup Finals.
The Ham Lake, Minnesota native played four seasons at Colorado College from 2002-06 and registered 30-36-66 and 121 penalty minutes in 160 career games. Prior to his collegiate career, Frischmon notched 31-47-78 and 91 penalty minutes in 117 games for Lincoln of the United States Hockey League.
Wilson, 25, collected two assists and was +1 in two games with Washington this season. He made his NHL debut and had two assists at Colorado on December 15. He also had 24-29-53, 23 penalty minutes and was +17 in 77 games with Hershey, the Capitals’ AHL affiliate. He helped the Bears win back-to-back Calder Cup Championships, including adding 6-6-12 and four penalty minutes in 21 playoff games in 2009-10.
Minnesota's 12th pick, 272nd overall, in the 2004 Entry Draft, Wilson has registered 107-120-227, 108 penalty minutes and a cumulative plus/minus rating of +52 in 298 career AHL games. He has added 16-25-41 and 16 penalty minutes in 67 Calder Cup playoff games. Prior to his professional career, he tallied 46-55-101 and 72 penalty minutes in 139 games with Colgate of the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference from 2002-06.
