Dalton Smith was selected by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 2nd round (34th overall) in 2010.

In 2009-10, Smith played in 62 games for the Ottawa 67’s of the OHL, tallying 21 goals while adding 23 assists for 44 points. He was in the top 20 of the league in penalty minutes with 129 PIMs, but also had a +20 rating. In 12 playoff games, he scored 3-3-6 and 27 penalty minutes.

In 2008-09, Smith played in 40 games for the Whitby Fury of the OJHL and 17 games for the Ottawa 67’s of the OHL. With the Fury, he scored 10-13-23 with 109 penalty minutes and scored 2-5-7 and eight penalty minutes with Ottawa.

Family in the NHL… His father, Derrick, played 10 seasons in the NHL with the Philadelphia Flyers in the 1980s. His uncle, Keith Primeau, was the third pick of the 1990 Entry Draft and played 15 seasons with the Red Wings, Whalers, Hurricanes and Flyers. Another uncle is Toronto Maple Leafs forward Wayne Primeau, who just finished his 15th NHL season.

David Savard was selected by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 4th round (94th overall) in 2009.

In 2009-10, Savard played in 64 games for the Moncton Wildcats of the QMJHL. He scored 13-64-77, had a +32 rating and 36 penalty minutes. In 21 playoff games, he recorded 1-14-15 with a +20 rating and eight penalty minutes. He orchestrated the Wildcat defense helping the team capture the 2010 QMJHL championship. He won the Defenseman of the Year Award, the Emile "Butch" Bouchard Trophy (Best Defenseman), Kevin Lowe Trophy (Best Defensive Defenseman), and was a First Team All Star.

In 2008-09, Savard played in 68 games for the Wildcats, scoring 9-35-44 along with a +29 plus/minus rating and 33 penalty minutes. In 10 playoff games, he recorded 5-5-10, was a +9 and had 10 penalty minutes.

In 2007-08, Savard played in 67 games for the Baie-Comeau Drakkar and the Mocton in his rookie year in the QMJHL. In total, he scored 1-11-12 and 40 penalty minutes.

Savard signed a three-year entry level contract with the Blue Jackets in June 2010.
