Rimer's Game Day Ramblings - Oct. 20
Russell out... Holden in?
The Blue Jackets were put through a quick and brisk morning skate in preparation for their home start against the Anaheim Ducks at Nationwide Arena tonight.
Steve Mason gets tonight's start, the first of the Jackets' four home games over their next five overall. Jonas Hiller is expected to get the start for Anaheim, who begin a four game road trip this evening.
The task at hand tonight is to shut down the Ducks top line of Getzlaf, Perry and Ryan. Not only are the trio one of the biggest lines in hockey, but they are certainly, in my opinion, one of the most physical and talented lines in the game. The key for the Blue Jackets in the words of Coach Scott Arniel is simply "we can't let them play their puck possession game."
Kris Russell did not take part in this morning's skate and is out for this evening with a lower body injury, while Anton Stralman who was on the ice will be a game-time decision. Watching the skate I believe we may see Nick Holden, on emergency recall from Springfield, make his National Hockey League debut against Anaheim. I thought Holden acquitted himself well during camp and the preseason, and deserves tonight's opportunity.
Game time is 7 p.m. and tonight's game is in HD on FOX Sports Ohio with Blue Jackets LIVE with Ray Crawford beginning at 6:30 p.m.
