Rimer's Game Day Ramblings - Oct. 22

October 22

Anton Stralman, who has sat out the last two games due to an upper body injury sustained in last Friday's home opener against the Blackhawks, is likely to return to the lineup tonight in an effort to ignite the Jackets power play. Stralman anchors the point for the CBJ and if he dresses look for Nick Holden, who made his NHL debut Wednesday against Anaheim, to be the scratch. Both will be in the ice for warm-ups.

Steve Mason, after I thought being the BEST player on the ice against the Ducks, gets the start this evening against Henrik Karlsson. Very little is known about Karlsson, who acquired by the Flames this summer from San Jose, other than the fact he is referred to by one Calgary writer as being a "skyscraper." Karlsson was 3-0-0 in the preseason and tonight's start will be his first ever in the NHL. Talking to Brent Sutter this morning the Calgary head coach said he liked the way the 25-year-old has worked in practice and added "I am looking for his teammates to give him the needed support, especially after last night's 4-2 loss to the Red Wings in Detroit."

As for Jackets head coach Scott Arniel, he says he has been pleased with the Jackets work ethic and attention to detail of his hockey club since last Friday's game against Chicago. Arniel added, "I was particularly pleased with the teams effort to block shots against the Ducks and our overall compete level on Wednesday.

One shot that I think he wishes was NOT blocked was the one off of Ethan Moreau's right hand. Moreau's hand required surgery yesterday and he will be lost to the hockey club for four to six weeks. I thought Moreau has been one of the most consistant Blue Jackets through their first five games and his penalty killing efforts and leadership will be missed.

Game time tonight is 7 p.m. on FOX Sports Ohio and it is on in HD! Ray Crawford hosts Blue Jackets LIVE at 6:30 p.m., so tune in for all the pre-game.
