November 10

Well, after a disappointing loss to the Wild Saturday night Jackets head coach Scott Arniel is anxious to get back behind the team's bench tonight against division rival St. Louis.

Arniel told me this morning that he was disappointed his hockey club did not put the Wild away in the second period Saturday night despite out chancing and out shooting Minnesota 16-3. In fact the Wild didn't get a single shot on goal until almost the 15-minute mark of the period when Brent Burns scored his second of two power play goals to tie the game at 2-2.

The Jackets have worked hard the last two days in practice and will look to get a lot of traffic in front of the Blues net tonight. It will be in Arniel's words, a very physical game, "We want to set the example in the first game head to head against them." That said, if you have witnessed any of the Blues/Blue Jackets games previously you know St. Louis will certainly play that way. The Blue Jackets need to be the team initiating the contact. The Blues have always finished their checks and at times have attempted to intimidate the Jackets, who simply must respond. Arniel summed up his thoughts on the game by stating that the Jackets must set the tone in their own building and I couldn't agree more. If they are going to be a playoff team, they MUST make things tough for the opposition in their home building and especially against division and conference rivals.

Jaroslav Halak gets the start for the Blues, winners of seven straight and for the record, are off to their best start ever. Steve Mason makes his first start since being pulled in Colorado 10 days ago, after giving up four goals in the team's 5-1 loss to the Avalanche.

Tonight's game can be seen in HD on FOX Sports Ohio beginning at 6:30 p.m. with pre-game coverage with Ray Crawford and Blue Jackets Live.
