Rimer's Game Day Ramblings - Dec. 9
Monday the Blue Jackets ended a couple of streaks, their five game winless skid and the Dallas six-game winning steak, one shy of their franchise record.
Tonight here in St. Louis the Jackets will attempt to end another streak, that being a 10-game winless streak in the Scottrade Center. The Jackets are 0-9-1 in their last 10 in St. Louis and the coaches made that very point to the team in this morning's meeting prior to taking to the ice for the morning skate. It was not the usual optional either. All hands were on board and not that it means anything, but the Jackets seemed to have a jump in their step today.
Coach Scott Arniel hopes the energy from the morning skate carries over to tonight's game, although he did say don't read too much into a morning skate. He simply wanted the players to focus and get ready for the rivalry game.
You know the Blues will be ready for the opening faceoff. The hosts have had tonight's date circled on their calendars since they were thumped 8-1 by the Blue Jackets back on November 10, a loss that snapped their seven-game winning streak. Assistant Coach Scott Mellanby told me this morning and I quote, "the Blue Jackets burst their bubble." The Blues haven't been the same since going 4-8-2 including the Jackets sound thrashing at Nationwide.
Coach Arniel says the Blues will be ready come game time, "without a doubt, we are a divisional opponent, we're close in the standings, they'll have lots of energy, they'll play a physical game and we have to be prepared to do the dirty stuff."
It's expected the Jackets will go with the same lineup, meaning Mathieu Garon will make his second straight start with the lines intact from the Dallas win Monday.
Blue Jackets Live kicks off our coverage from St. Louis tonight at 7:30 p.m. Columbus time(ET) with the game at 8 p.m. in HD.
