Columbus Blue Jackets Activate Forward Derek MacKenzie Off Injured Reserve

COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Columbus Blue Jackets have activated forward Derek MacKenzie off injured reserve, Blue Jackets Executive Vice President and General Manager Scott Howson announced December 30. MacKenzie is eligible for selection to play when Columbus visits the Toronto Maple Leafs tonight at Air Canada Centre.

MacKenzie, 29, suffered a lower body injury against the New York Rangers on December 11 and has missed the past eight games. He has collected 2-3-5, four penalty minutes and is +2 in 23 games with the Blue Jackets this season to raise his career NHL totals to 5-8-13 in 87 games with the Blue Jackets and Atlanta Thrashers.

The Sudbury, Ontario native was Atlanta’s sixth pick, 128th overall, in the 1999 Entry Draft. He spent six seasons in the Thrashers organization before signing with the Blue Jackets in July 2007. He has registered 147-185-332 and 567 penalty minutes in 550 career American Hockey League games since the 2001-02 season.
