Rimer's Game Day Ramblings - Mar. 15

March 15

It's a rare visit by another "Original Six" team tonight as the Blue Jackets play host to the Boston Bruins at Nationwide Arena.

The Bruins, currently third in the East are win-less in four, losing twice after regulation, but they do own one of the best road records in the entire NHL at 22-9-4. Their power play is 0 for the last 19. In talking to one of their players prior to the morning skate about the addition of Tomas Kaberle, there was high praise for the former Maple Leafs D-man and his ability to pass the puck, and the feeling is it's only a matter of time before his passing abilities have an impact on the B's power play.

The Bruins goaltender Tim Thomas, in my opinion, is certainly a candidate for the comeback player of the year award. Thomas leads all goalies in goals against average at 2.03 GAA, save percentage at .938-percent and is third in shutouts with seven, while holding down a share of eighth in wins with 29. Thomas is an unorthodox netminder who reminds me a lot of Dominic Hasek and he is just as effective.

Coach Scott Arniel says, "Thomas doesn't have a definitive style, but he knows what he is going to do on a particular shot. You see him making circus catches on the nightly highlight shows."

The Blue Jackets will be attempting to pick up where they left off in Carolina on Saturday, where they edged the Hurricanes 3-2. But, Arneil said he warned the team about the need to stay out of the penalty box. The Jackets had nine penalties called against them on Saturday night and the Jackets bench boss said "with Boston tonight and Detroit Thursday at Nationwide we had better be disciplined or it will get real ugly."

It's a 7 p.m. start in High Definition on FOX Sports Ohio.
