Rimer's Game Day Ramblings - Apr. 1
The defending champion Chicago Blackhawks make their third and final appearance at Nationwide Arena tonight. The Blackhawks won the previous two meetings in the season series here in Columbus and hold a slight edge in the series 3-2-0 with the Blue Jackets having beaten the champs twice in Chicago.
It looks like the Blue Jackets will start Mathieu Garon tonight. Steve Mason, who I thought had a strong outing last night in Washington despite the 4-3 Overtime loss to the Capitals, suffered an undisclosed injury in the game and is unable to dress tonight. As a result the Jackets recalled David LeNeveu from Springfield this morning and he will likely back up Garon.
Rick Nash, who sat out last night's game, will also not dress tonight. Here's hoping the injury is not serious and he can possibly return Sunday at Nationwide for the club's game against the St. Louis Blues.
More on last night's game in Washington... watching the game with my partner Bill Davidge back here in Columbus I thought Tomas Kubalik was impressive in his debut, aside from his two assists in his first NHL game. Then again I am not surprised because Kubalik was solid in every pre-season game he played with the CBJ. He has had an outstanding first pro season in Springfield scoring 22 goals and 28 assists for 50 points. Not only was Kubalik strong in the offensive end of the ice, but he was impressive coming back time and time again defensively. He has obviously picked up the organizations system both in Springfield and here in Columbus.
I thought the line of Vermette, Calvert and Kubalik played the entire game with some chemistry and look forward to seeing more of the same tonight. Calvert and Kubalik had played a number of games together with the Falcons prior to Matt's call up.
Tonight's game is in HD back on FOX Sports Ohio at 7 p.m. and the game will be our final "All Access" night of the season.
