Jackets Sign Forward Mike Blunden
Blunden signs one-year, two-way NHL-American Hockey League contract
Blunden, 24, appeared in one game for the Blue Jackets in 2010-11. He collected 12 goals and nine assists for 21 points and had 41 penalty minutes in 37 games with the Springfield Falcons, Columbus’ AHL affiliate. He missed the majority of the season due to injury. The Toronto, Ontario native registered 2-2-4, 59 penalty minutes and was +3 in 40 games with the Blue Jackets in 2009-10. He made his NHL debut with Chicago on October 25, 2006 against Vancouver and has tallied 2-2-4 and 69 penalty minutes in 51 career NHL games.
Chicago’s second pick, 43rd overall, in the 2005 Entry Draft, Blunden was acquired from the Blackhawks in exchange for Adam Pineault on January 10, 2009. He has recorded 52-68-120 and 294 penalty minutes in 240 career AHL games with Springfield, Syracuse and Norfolk. Prior to his professional career, he totaled 100-81-181 and 246 penalty minutes in 236 games with the Ontario Hockey League’s Erie Otters.
