Columbus Blue Jackets Promote Tyler Wright, Add Pair to Hockey Operations Staff

COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Columbus Blue Jackets have promoted Tyler Wright to director of amateur scouting and development coach, added Greg Drechsel as an amateur scout and hired Nolan Pratt as an assistant coach for the American Hockey League's Springfield Falcons, Executive Vice President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Scott Howson announced August 2.

Wright, who has spent the past four seasons as the club's development coach, will oversee the club's amateur scouting efforts with Director of Amateur Scouting Paul Castron and continue to actively work with prospects throughout the organization playing in various major junior leagues, college hockey and in Europe.

He was selected by the Blue Jackets in the 2000 Expansion Draft and spent four-plus seasons with the club, registering 57 goals and 51 assists for 108 points with 436 penalty minutes in 309 games from 2000-05. He appeared in 613 career NHL games, tallying 79-70-149 and 854 penalty minutes with the Blue Jackets, Anaheim Ducks, Pittsburgh Penguins and Edmonton Oilers. He was Edmonton's first pick, 12th overall, in the 1991 Entry Draft.

Drechsel has spent the past six years at Clarkson University, most recently serving as associate head coach. Prior to that he was a member of the Los Angeles Kings scouting staff from 1996-03, including serving as the assistant director of amateur scouting from 2000-03. A graduate of Colgate University, he registered 52-78-130 and 216 penalty minutes in 128 career games for the Raiders from 1984-88. He began his coaching career as an assistant at Clarkson from 1989-93 before stints at Miami (Ohio) University in 1993-94 and at the University of Denver from 1994-96.

Pratt joins the Falcons staff, where he will work with Head Coach Rob Riley and returning Assistant Coach Brad Larsen, following a 14-year playing career as a defenseman that included 11 NHL seasons. Hartford’s fifth pick, 115th overall in the 1993 Entry Draft, he registered 9-56-65 and 537 penalty minutes in 592 career NHL games with Hartford/Carolina, Colorado, Tampa Bay and Buffalo from 1996-08. He helped the Lightning win the Stanley Cup championship in 2003-04. After spending the 2007-08 season with the Sabres, Pratt played in the KHL for Amur Khabarovsk from 2008-10 before wrapping up his career with Lukko in Finland last season.
