Blue Jackets Visit After School All-Stars

Heyl Elementary's After-School All-Stars were in for a treat this past Tuesday (Nov. 1) when three Columbus Blue Jackets players and Stinger paid a visit.
Derek Dorsett, Derick Brassard, and John Moore joined the All-Stars in soccer, taught one-on-one golf lessons, and watched Stinger take on the kids in fencing, all as part of the program's health and fitness programming. The players also participated in a Q&A with the kids, answering questions about their favorite foods, stressed the importance of staying in school and signed autographs for the kids.
The After School All-Stars program provides three program curricula for its participants: academics, enrichment and health and fitness.
"It's about exposure for these kids," Director of Development Aslyne Rodriguez said. "We want to make sure that they can't say, I never got to try that."
The program also recruits from its graduates; high schoolers that went through the program frequently come back as counselors for new participants.
