Columbus Blue Jackets and Springfield Falcons Extend AHL Affiliation Through 2013-14 Season

COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Columbus Blue Jackets have extended their agreement with the Springfield Falcons for the club to serve as the organization’s American Hockey League affiliate through the 2013-14 season, Blue Jackets Assistant General Manager Chris MacFarland and Falcons President and General Manager Bruce Landon announced January 5.

“We are very excited to extend our affiliation with Springfield for another two seasons,” said Blue Jackets General Manager Scott Howson. “The Falcons, led by Bruce Landon and Mr. Charlie Pompea, have been first class to deal with the last two seasons. We believe Springfield is a tremendous hockey environment as well as community for our players to continue their development. We couldn’t be happier with this announcement.”

The Springfield Falcons are currently in their 17th AHL season and have served as the Blue Jackets affiliate since the 2010-11 season. The AHL has been a part of the Greater Springfield area dating back to 1936 and the Springfield Indians. In the spring of 1994, the Springfield Indians franchise was sold and moved to Worcester, Mass., and Springfield was awarded an expansion franchise in May of 1994. The Falcons play their home games in the 6,789-seat MassMutual Center.

“I would like to thank Scott Howson and Chris MacFarland from the Blue Jackets for working with us to extend the affiliation,” said Landon. “(Falcons owner) Charlie Pompea and I both felt that it was important we showed some stability and continuity with our NHL partner.”

The Blue Jackets return to action tonight when the club visits the San Jose Sharks. Game time from HP Pavilion at San Jose is set for 10:30 p.m. ET. Live coverage on FOX Sports Ohio HD begins with the Blue Jackets Live pre-game show starting at 6:30 p.m. The game will also be broadcast live on the Wheeling Island Hotel & Casino Blue Jackets Radio Network, including flagship station Sports Radio 97.1 The Fan in Columbus and online at BlueJackets.com.

Fans can also purchase tickets by phone at (800) 745-3000 or online at BlueJackets.com, the official club web site, and www.ticketmaster.com.
