COLUMBUS, OHIO – Columbus Blue Jackets forward Ryan Johansen is one of 12 rookies selected to participate at the 2012 NHL All-Star Weekend, January 26-29, in Ottawa, the league and club announced today. The 12 Rookies, along with the 42 All-Stars, will participate in the 2012 Molson Canadian NHL All-Star Skills Competition on Saturday, January 28 at Scotiabank Place (7 p.m., ET, NBC Sports Network). Ryan Johansen

Johanson, 19, has registered seven goals and eight assists for 15 points with 18 penalty minutes and a +3 plus/minus rating in 36 games this season. He is tied for the NHL lead among rookies with three game-winning goals and tied for ninth in goals and points. Earlier this season, he became just the third player in NHL history whose first two career goals were game-winners (Oct. 25 vs. Detroit and Oct. 30 vs. Anaheim). The others were Marco Sturm (San Jose, 1997) and Howie Meeker (Toronto, 1946). He was also the first player to score his club’s first three game-winners since Philadelphia’s Brian Propp in 1982-83 (*courtesy of Elias Sports Bureau*).

A Port Moody, British Columbia native, Johansen was Columbus’ first pick, fourth overall, in the 2010 Entry Draft. He played two seasons with Portland of the Western Hockey League, collecting 65-96-161, 117 penalty minutes and a +61 plus/minus rating in 134 games from 2009-11. Last year, he notched 40-52-92 and 64 penalty minutes in 63 games and added 13-15-28 and six penalty minutes in 21 playoff games. He also was named to the All-Tournament Team at the 2011 World Junior Championships after helping Canada win the silver medal.

Johansen becomes the seventh Blue Jacket selected to participate at the NHL All-Star Weekend, joining Rick Nash (2004, 2007-09, 2011 All-Star Game; 2003 YoungStars Game), Ray Whitney (2003 ASG), Espen Knutsen (2002 ASG), Steve Mason (2009 YSG-did not play due to injury), Nikolai Zherdev (2004 YSG) and Rostislav Klesla (2002/injured and 2003 YSG).

The Blue Jackets return to action Friday when the club hosts the Phoenix Coyotes. Game time from Nationwide Arena is set for 7 p.m. ET. Live coverage on FOX Sports Ohio HD begins with the Blue Jackets Live pre-game show starting at 6:30 p.m. The game will also be broadcast live on the Wheeling Island Hotel & Casino Blue Jackets Radio Network, including flagship station 97.1 The Fan and online at BlueJackets.com.
