Columbus Blue Jackets Activate LW R.J. Umberger Off Injured Reserve; Recall LW Dane Byers from Springfield Falcons (AHL)
COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Columbus Blue Jackets have activated left wing R.J. Umberger off injured reserve and recalled left wing Dane Byers from the Springfield Falcons, Columbus' American Hockey League affiliate, club Executive Vice President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Scott Howson announced January 23.
Umberger, 29, has missed the last five games due to an upper body injury suffered at Anaheim on January 8. He has registered seven goals and 11 assists for 18 points and 12 penalty minutes 42 games with the Blue Jackets this season. He ranks fourth on the club in goals and points. He had his franchise record for consecutive games played streak come to an end at 288 games when he missed the game against Phoenix on January 13. In 516 career NHL games, he has tallied 130-162-292 and 221 penalty minutes with Columbus and Philadelphia.
Byers, 25, is scoreless with 24 penalty minutes and has an even plus/minus rating in five games with Columbus this season. He has registered 8-13-21 and has 71 penalty minutes in 31 games with Springfield this season and ranks second on the Falcons in power play goals (five) and penalty minutes. He has 92-129-221 and 753 penalty minutes in 355 career AHL games. He has appeared in 11 career NHL games, including six with the New York Rangers, and has 1-0-1 and 55 penalty minutes.
The Blue Jackets return to action tonight when the club visits the Nashville Predators. Game time from Bridgestone Arena is set for 8 p.m. ET.
