All-Star Weekend Q&A with Ryan Johansen
Ryan Johansen

Blue Jackets rookie center Ryan Johansen is on his way Ottawa, Ont. for the NHL All-Star Game this weekend. Johansen, 19, is one of 12 rookies slated to participate in the Super Skills competition on Saturday night, which will be aired on the NBC Sports Network.

We had a chance to catch up with Johansen for a quick Q&A before he boarded his flight to Ottawa, and asked him about Twitter, what he would do if the Blue Jackets held their own fantasy draft and a lot more.

CBJ.com:
Yesterday, Derick Brassard announced via Twitter that he got Marc Methot (@MarcMethot3) to join while sitting in the airport during a flight delay. If you could pick one teammate to start tweeting, who would it be?

Johansen: Well, I know James Wisniewski has Twitter but he doesn’t write all of his tweets. I’d like to see more from him. He’s an interesting guy with good thoughts, and I think if you made him tweet more he would be great at it. He definitely needs to tweet more often, for sure.

CBJ.com:
Tonight, you’ll be sitting in on the NHL Player Fantasy Draft for the All-Star Game. If you were a captain and the Blue Jackets held their own fantasy draft, who would be your first pick, and why?

Johansen: That’s a tough one…yikes. Good question. There’s a lot of great hockey players here, but I would have to go with Derek Dorsett. I wouldn’t want him running around trying to hit me, slash me and all that stuff. It’s a safe pick for me, you could say that.

CBJ.com:
What one NHL player will you be most nervous to sit next to at tonight’s Player Fantasy Draft?

Johansen: (Laughs)…Well, I would have to say Jarome Iginla. He was always been an idol of mine growing up back in B.C., and I wanted to do things just like he did. He’s such a great player – I would definitely be a little nervous sitting next to him tonight.

CBJ.com:
In tomorrow night’s Super Skills competition, what one event would you NOT want to participate in, and why?

Johansen: Oh, easily the Fastest Skater. I’d be afraid to go out there and blow a tire, fall and crash into the boards. That would be pretty embarrassing.

CBJ.com:
We’ll close this out with a bit of “rapid fire.” Tell us the one Blue Jackets player you would select to go head-to-head with in the following Super Skills events:

Fastest Skater: (John Moore was suggested) No way, he’s too fast. I’d pick Vinny Prospal.
Shootout: John Moore.
Hardest shot: Vinny Prospal.
Accuracy contest: Colton Gillies. Just to get under his skin.
