Columbus Blue Jackets Activate D James Wisniewski Off IR

COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Columbus Blue Jackets have activated defenseman James Wisniewski off injured reserve, club Executive Vice President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Scott Howson announced today. Wisniewski missed the last 17 games due to an ankle injury suffered at Dallas on December 29.

Wisniewski has collected two goals and 15 assists for 17 points with 25 penalty minutes in 29 games this season, ranking third among club defensemen in scoring. He has also logged a team-leading 24:48 average time on ice, which ranks 15th among all NHL players.

The 27-year-old native of Canton, Michigan signed with Columbus as a free agent last July and has registered 29-136-165 and 327 penalty minutes in 358 career NHL games. Last season, he set career highs in goals, assists and points after notching 10-41-51 with 38 penalty minutes in 75 games with the Montreal Canadiens and New York Islanders. He ranked fifth among NHL defensemen in points and seventh in assists.

The Blue Jackets return to action on tonight when they visit the Minnesota Wild. Game time from Xcel Energy Center is set for 8 p.m. ET. Live coverage on FOX Sports Ohio HD begins with the Blue Jackets Live pre-game show starting at 7:30 p.m. The game will also be broadcast live on the Wheeling Island Hotel & Casino Blue Jackets Radio Network, including WWCD 102.5 FM in Columbus, and online at BlueJackets.com.
