The 2011-12 season was a breakout campaign for Blue Jackets rookie defenseman John Moore. After getting his first taste of the National Hockey League a year ago, Moore was sent back to Springfield (AHL) for the balance of the season to work on his game. Moore had a tremendous offseason training program which helped him gear up for potentially breaking into the NHL full-time this past fall.

After an impressive training camp and preseason, the 21-year-old native of Winnetka, Ill. was among the final group of players cut from camp and assigned to the Falcons. An injury to Radek Martinek and suspension to James Wisniewski opened the door for Moore to be recalled to Columbus in early October, and once he earned his way into the lineup, he never looked back. Moore scored his first NHL goal in the team's first win of the season on Oct. 25 against the Detroit Red Wings, and gradually worked his way up the depth chart as the season moved along. By the end of his first full year in the NHL, Moore was playing top-four minutes on the Columbus blue line and drawing ice time against the opposition's scoring lines. He drew time on the penalty kill, as well, and showed he is rounding into the two-way defenseman he was projected to be when drafted 21st overall in 2009.

What's next for John Moore? He talks about the past season, what he learned, and looking toward the future in this JacketsTV sit down with Bob McElligott of Blue Jackets radio.
