#TweetUp: Talking Twitter With Cam Atkinson (@CamAtkinson13)

In the second installment of our #TweetUp feature during development camp week, I caught up with Cam Atkinson -- one of the emerging young snipers in the NHL, and a good guy who happens to be roughly the same height as me. The problem is that he's significantly cooler than I am, but simply by proxy, I got a little cooler today.

Cam's had a Twitter account for a while now, and one of our running jokes this past season was getting him the official Twitter checkmark for a verified account. Once he got that, it was business time. His Tweet-game is pretty solid, and he's got all kinds of thoughts and opinions on the world's largest social network of 140 characters or less.

Let's see what Cam had to say about Twitter:

Why did you start up a Twitter account?

I started an account just so I could follow along with what's going on in the world. Twitter's great for that. I follow CNN, sports accounts like ESPN and a ton of others where you get updates on what's happening. What famous people are doing, all that stuff.

Who is your favorite person to follow, and why?

My favorite person to follow right now is Paul Bissonnette. (Full disclosure: Oscar Dansk had the same answer, but he didn't consult him on this response). He doesn't take any flack from anyone and just says what's on his mind and it's funny to see how he replies to certain people.

If you could change one thing about Twitter, what would it be?

Tough question. Probably would like to see less negative remarks back, there's really no need for that. But that's just how people are and you have to live with it.

If you had to beg one person for a RT, who would it be?

That would have to be Derick Brassard, because he's my idol and I look up to him.

Any memorable experiences from tweeting?

I would say that one of the best parts is the people following you and interacting with you, that's the cool thing. It's neat to see more and more people following you every day. Thanks to the Columbus "crew" for that! (hat tip to 97.1 The Fan's Lori Schmidt for this one -- she may or may not have advised tweeting pictures of puppies for more followers...)

What do you like most about Twitter?

Just being the first to find out about what's going on in the world. It's so instant. Anything that happens, you know about it first on Twitter.
