Hinote, Jackets Fans to Support Andyman-a-thon This Weekend

Passionate fans have been a hallmark of the Blue Jackets franchise since the team took the ice. Perhaps no individual personified that passion more than Andy “Andyman” Davis, a prominent Columbus radio voice and renowned public address announcer for the minor league Columbus Chill (ECHL) hockey club during the 1990s.

Andyman died tragically two years ago while on vacation in Michigan with his family. He was only 42 years old.

Blue Jackets assistant coach Dan Hinote will be in the CD102.5 studio with host Brian Phillips from 10-11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 15 for the Andyman-a-thon, in honor of Andyman.

Andyman’s rabid advocacy – and high profile platform on what would become a flagship station of the Blue Jackets Radio Network – helped Columbus generate the buzz that landed the city a National Hockey League franchise.

In addition to being a Blue Jackets “Superfan,” Andyman also built a reputation for personal generosity. Each year, just before the holidays, he would take to the air for 48 hours to raise thousands of dollars for local children’s charities.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the “Andyman-a-thon,” a legacy WWCD-FM 102.5, along with Andyman’s legion of friends, has carried on.

The Blue Jackets will be donating a team-signed Blue Jackets jersey and game worn equipment as a token of their appreciation for his impact on the Columbus community and his commitment to the Blue Jackets organization. Jackets fans are encouraged to call in and show their support and continue such a generous tradition that helps children in need.

You can also make a donation at the CD102.5 website.

Beginning Dec. 14 (today), callers can request songs for a donation during the marathon, or participate in an auction to purchase items donated by advertisers and record companies.

The Childhood League, Nationwide Children’s Hospital, Ronald McDonald House, and the Andy Davis Memorial Foundation are among the many beneficiaries of this annual event.
