Updated Hall of Hockey at Nationwide Arena is ‘absolutely phenomenal’
The Hall of Hockey has been added to sections 119-120 on the Main Concourse overlooking the OhioHealth Ice Haus
Work is completed on an updated OHSAA Hall of Hockey inside Nationwide Arena to showcase the growing excellence of Ohio high school hockey. The exhibit, which now features jerseys displayed on mannequins and plaques displaying past champions, has been moved to an area overlooking the OhioHealth Ice Haus.
The OhioHealth Ice Haus is the practice home to the Columbus Blue Jackets, and is the home rink for many youth and high school programs across the region.
Steve Neil, the assistant commissioner of the Ohio High School Athletic Association, called the new Hall of Hockey “absolutely phenomenal.”
The pillars in the new Hall of Hockey provide improved opportunities for the Blue Jackets franchise to tell the full story of its commitment to Ohio high school hockey.
Neil says the quality and interest in high school hockey continues to grow across Ohio, thanks in large part to the influence of the Blue Jackets and other professional hockey clubs competing in the state.
“It’s had a direct impact, to be honest with you,” he said. “Because of the Blue Jackets, we know that the other parts of Ohio have really continued to grow the sport at the youth level and the high school level.”
Neil says a key to continued growth of the sport is resources. Schools and youth programs rely on financial and equipment donations – and access to ice time at places like the OhioHealth Ice Haus and the four other Chiller locations in central Ohio – to safely compete and learn the game.
Several high school games will be played during the holiday season.
