Columbus, Ohio – The American Hockey League announced on Saturday that Springfield Falcons forward Jonathan Audy-Marchessault and defenseman Tim Erixon, both prospects of the Columbus Blue Jackets, have been named Eastern Conference starters for the 2013 American Hockey League All-Star Classic. This annual showcase of the AHL’s top players will be staged on Monday night at the Dunkin' Donuts Center in Providence, R.I.
Starting lineups for the game were determined by AHL fans via the official AHL All-Star Classic Fan Balloting presented by CCM.
Participating in the AHL All-Star Classic for the second consecutive year, Audy-Marchessault currently leads the Falcons with 44 points and 28 assists, while ranking third in the league in each of those categories. He has recorded 16 points (8G-8A) this month, which is the most in the AHL. The 5-9, 180-pound winger was signed by Columbus as an unrestricted free agent on July 1, 2012 after he recorded 24-40-64 in 76 games with the AHL’s Connecticut Whale last season.
Acquired by the Blue Jackets from the New York Rangers last summer, Erixon currently leads all Springfield defensemen in scoring with 5-24-29 in 39 appearances. The 6-2, 190-pound blueliner was originally selected by Calgary in the opening round (23rd overall) of the 2009 NHL Draft and has appeared in 18 career NHL games (0G-2A-2P-8PIM) with the Rangers after New York acquired his rights from the Flames in June of 2011.
Current Blue Jackets players Cam Atkinson (2012), John Moore (2011) and Artem Anisimov (2009) all previously participated in the AHL All-Star Classic, with all three players recording at least one point in their respective appearances. Columbus head coach Todd Richards was also behind the bench at the 2007 edition of the match, helping Team PlanetUSA defeat Team Canada by a score of 19-14 at the Ricoh Coliseum in Toronto, Ontario.
