Blue Jackets recall Tim Erixon, Jonathan Audy-Marchessault from Springfield (AHL)

COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Columbus Blue Jackets have recalled center Jonathan Audy-Marchessault and defenseman Tim Erixon from the Springfield Falcons, the club’s American Hockey League affiliate, Executive Vice President and General Manager Scott Howson announced today. The club has also placed left wing Matt Calvert on Injured Reserve. Calvert suffered a upper body injury during Monday’s 2-1 home win over Dallas and is expected to be sidelined approximately one week.

Acquired by the Blue Jackets in a trade with the New York Rangers last summer, Erixon leads all Falcons defensemen in scoring with five goals and 24 assists for 29 points in 40 games this season. The 21-year-old, who appeared in the 2013 AHL All-Star Classic earlier this week, collected two assists, eight penalty minutes and averaged 12:59 TOI in 18 games with New York last season. Originally selected by the Flames in the opening round (23rd overall) of the 2009 NHL Draft, Erixon’s rights were acquired by the Rangers in June of 2011. He has represented Sweden at several IIHF tournaments including the 2011 World Championships (Silver), 2010 (Bronze) & 2009 (Silver) World Junior Championships and the 2009 World U18 Championships.

A native of Cap Rouge, QC, Audy-Marchessault (pronounced OH-dee-MAHR-shuh-so) was signed by the Blue Jackets as a free agent on July 1, 2012 after tallying 24-40-64 in 76 appearances with the Connecticut Whale (AHL) last season. The 5’9”, 180-pound center is currently Springfield’s leading scorer with 16-29-45 in 42 games, which ranks him third on the AHL points list, and he scored a goal in the second period of Monday’s AHL All-Star Classic. Prior to commencing his professional career, Audy-Marchessault spent four seasons with the Quebec Remparts of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, recording 98-141-239 in 254 career games from 2007-11.

The Blue Jackets return to action on Thursday when they host the St. Louis Blues at Nationwide Arena. Game time is 7 p.m. ET.
