Columbus Blue Jackets Place Defenseman Jack Johnson On Injured Reserve, Recall Center Ryan Johansen from AHL's Springfield Falcons

The Columbus Blue Jackets have placed defenseman Jack Johnson on Injured Reserve and recalled center Ryan Johansen from the Springfield Falcons of the American Hockey League, the club announced today. Johnson suffered an upper body injury in Saturday night’s game at St. Louis. He will be evaluated further by club doctors after the Blue Jackets return to Columbus following tonight’s game at Chicago.

Johansen, 20, has collected two assists and two penalty minutes in 10 games with the Blue Jackets this season and has tallied 9-14-23 and 26 penalty minutes in 77 career NHL games. In 40 games with Springfield this season, he has picked up 17-16-33 with 20 penalty minutes and a plus/minus rating of +11.

The Port Moody, British Columbia native collected 9-12-21 and 24 penalty minutes in 67 games with the Blue Jackets as a rookie in 2011-12. Columbus’ first pick, fourth overall in the 2010 NHL Draft, he registered 65-96-161 and 117 penalty minutes in 134 career Western Hockey League games with the Portland Winterhawks from 2009-11.

Johnson, 26, has tallied 1-7-8 with six penalty minutes in 17 games this season and ranks sixth in the NHL in Time On Ice, averaging 26:13 per game. He has notched 5-17-22 and 21 penalty minutes in 38 games as a Blue Jacket and 35-111-146 and 277 penalty minutes in 382 career games with Columbus and Los Angeles. The third overall pick of the 2005 NHL Draft by Carolina, he joined the Blue Jackets in a trade with the Los Angeles Kings on Feb. 23, 2012.
