Blue Jackets goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky named NHL\'s First Star of the Week of Mar. 4-10


COLUMBUS, OHIO --- Columbus Blue Jackets goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky has been named the National Hockey League’s First Star for the week of March 4-10, the League and club announced today. Pittsburgh’s Sidney Crosby was named the NHL’s Second Star, while Los Angeles’ Jeff Carter is the Third Star selection.

Bobrovsky posted a 4-0-0 record with a 0.77 goals-against average, .972 save percentage and one shutout in four games last week, stopping 106-of-109 shots in 233 minutes of action. He began the week by stopping all 21 shots he faced over two-plus periods in relief of Steve Mason in a 4-3 victory over the Edmonton Oilers on Mar. 5. He then made 34 saves, stopping 16-of-16 shots in the second period, in a 2-1 OT win over Vancouver on Mar. 7. Two days later, he recorded his first career shutout with 30 saves in a 3-0 win over the Red Wings at Nationwide Arena on Mar. 9. He capped the week by turning aside 21-of-23 shots and stopping 2-of-3 in the shootout to earn a 3-2 win over the Red Wings at Joe Louis Arena on Sunday.

Bobrovsky, 24, has gone 6-1-1 with a 1.63 GAA, .941 SV% and one shutout in his last eight games to improve to 8-6-3 with a 2.27 GAA, .919 SV% and one SO in 17 games this season. His play has helped propel the Blue Jackets to five-straight wins and a 5-0-2 mark in their last seven outings. Acquired from Philadelphia for draft picks on June 22, 2012, Bobrovsky has gone 50-29-13 with a 2.65 GAA, .911 SV% and one shutout in 100 career NHL games since making his debut with the Flyers in 2010-11.

The Blue Jackets return to action on Tuesday when they host the Vancouver Canucks at Nationwide Arena.
