COLUMBUS BLUE JACKETS ADD CENTER MICHAEL CHAPUT TO THE ROSTER ON EMERGENCY RECALL FROM AHL’S SPRINGFIELD FALCONS
COLUMBUS, OHIO --- The Columbus Blue Jackets have added center Michael Chaput to the roster on emergency recall from the American Hockey League’s Springfield Falcons, club General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen announced today.
Chaput (pronounced sha-PUT), who turns 21 on Tuesday, has registered 11 goals and 17 assists for 28 points with 51 penalty minutes in 67 games with Springfield this season, which is his first as a professional. He leads all Falcons rookies in goals (tied), assists and points, helping the club capture the Northeast Division championship.
Philadelphia’s first pick, 89th overall, in the 2010 Entry Draft, Chaput was acquired by Columbus along with Greg Moore from the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for left wing Tom Sestito on February 28, 2011. A native of Ile Bizard, Quebec, he tallied 77-110-187 with 238 penalty minutes and a cumulative plus/minus rating of +49 in 216 career Quebec Major Junior Hockey League games with Shawinigan and Lewiston from 2008-12.
In 2011-12, he registered 21-42-63, had 47 penalty minutes and a +39 plus/minus rating in 57 games with Shawinigan, leading the club in assists, while ranking second in points and third (tied) in game-winning goals (four). Chaput was named MVP of the 2012 Memorial Cup after leading the tournament in scoring with 5-7-12 in six games and assisting on the championship-winning goal as the Cataractes captured the first Memorial Cup title in franchise history.
Columbus returns to action on Tuesday, hosting the San Jose Sharks at Nationwide Arena. Game time is 7 p.m. ET.
