Random Thoughts: Apr. 11

Having a few days in between games has been so infrequent this season that I almost don’t know what to do with myself.

Fortunately, it’s much more fun when those days off come after a big win like the one against San Jose. Could the Blue Jackets put together a much more complete effort than they did in that game? I think they’d be hard pressed to do so. Even though many nights Sergei Bobrovsky has been the be-all and end-all, that win over the Sharks was a great demonstration of total team defense.

I’m convinced that country singer Luke Bryan could be a hockey player, after watching him win the ACM Entertainer of the Year Award. He was in complete shock and humbled much like many a player who has ever hoisted the Stanley Cup. It’s always refreshing to me to see someone at the top of their profession be thoroughly appreciative and overjoyed when they are recognized for their accomplishments.

Speaking of the ACM Awards show, was there any segment better than Garth Brooks singing with George Strait? You have to admire a performer like George. When I can find your songs on both the classic country and current country categories of Pandora, you’re pretty damn good.

I’ve spent the last week thinking about the impact of Marian Gaborik waving his no trade clause to come to Columbus. What a monumental event for this franchise. Gaborik is a bona fide goal scorer who has had great success in this league for a long time. The fact that he wanted to join this group and this organization speaks loudly for the future of this franchise.

Last night’s season ticket appreciation night was a lot of fun. Thanks to all of you who did an interview with me on Jackets TV. You guys were great and proved that the positive energy flowing through this team extends beyond the dressing room.

We’re about to embark on a lengthy road trip of nine days. I haven’t packed for this long of a trip since I did baseball on a regular basis. Even then I didn’t have to wear a suit during the game, so this is going to be a challenge.

I do know what the golden rule is though: if you have to wear a shirt a second time, that’s ok. Just make sure to take enough clean underwear.

That will wrap up today’s edition. In the immortal words of Tigger, TTFN (Ta-Ta-For-Now)!
