Blue Jackets assign center Ryan Johansen and defenseman Dalton Prout to Springfield Falcons
Both players will join the Falcons' run for the Calder Cup
COLUMBUS, OHIO --- The Columbus Blue Jackets today announced that center Ryan Johansen and defenseman Dalton Prout have been assigned to the Springfield Falcons of the American Hockey League. Johansen and Prout are expected to arrive in Springfield prior to today’s Game Two of the Calder Cup Playoffs series between the Falcons and Manchester Monarchs.
Johansen tallied five goals and seven assists for 12 points with 12 penalty minutes in 40 games with the Blue Jackets this season. The club’s top pick, fourth overall, in the 2010 NHL Draft, he has collected 14-19-33 and 36 penalty minutes in 107 career NHL games over the past two seasons. The Port Moody, British Columbia native began the 2012-13 campaign with Springfield, registering 17-16-33, 20 penalty minutes and a +11 plus/minus rating in 40 games.
Prout collected 1-6-7 with 25 penalty minutes and a team-leading +15 plus/minus rating in 28 games with the Blue Jackets this season. Columbus’ seventh pick, 154th overall, in the 2010 NHL Draft, he made his NHL debut in 2011-12 as he was +1 in five games played with the Blue Jackets. The 6-3, 219-pound native of LaSalle, Quebec has appeared in 102 career AHL games with the Falcons, tallying 5-17-22, 127 penalty minutes and a +3 plus/minus rating. He collected 1-8-9, 73 penalty minutes and was +4 in 40 games with Springfield earlier this season.
The Falcons, who are the second seed in the Eastern Conference, lead their best-of-five conference semi-final series vs. Manchester 1-0 after a 2-1 overtime win on Saturday. Game Two is today at 4 p.m. with Game Three scheduled for Thursday night in Manchester.
The Blue Jackets wrapped up the 2012-13 season with a 3-1 win over the Nashville Predators on Saturday night. The club posted a 24-17-7 record (55 pts.) this season, which was the highest winning percentage in franchise history (.573).
