COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Columbus Blue Jackets announced today that the club has reached an agreement with the Evansville (Indiana) IceMen to serve as the ECHL affiliate for the Blue Jackets and the American Hockey League’s Springfield Falcons for the 2013-14 season. Evansville served in the same capacity last season, their first in the ECHL.

“We’re pleased that Evansville will continue to serve as our ECHL affiliate,” said Blue Jackets Assistant General Manager Chris MacFarland, who oversees hockey operations for the club’s professional affiliates. “We’re looking forward to continuing our strong working relationship with the IceMen and seeing our prospects develop under the leadership of (Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations) Jeff Pyle.”

“We are fortunate to be able to work with Columbus, which is a great organization and one of the fastest-improving teams in the NHL,” said Pyle. “They are an organization with great young talent and we look forward to partnering with them for a second consecutive year.”

In their inaugural ECHL campaign, Evansille posted a record of 25-40-3 to finish fifth in the Eastern Conference’s North Division. The IceMen averaged 5,514 fans per game in 2012-13, placing them seventh in their 23-team league. Prior to joining the ECHL, the IceMen competed in the Central Hockey League in 2011-12 and the International Hockey League in 2010-11 after relocating from Muskegon, Michigan at the end of the 2009-10 season. An earlier incarnation of the IceMen competed in the All-American Hockey League from 2008-10, capturing the Rod Davidson Cup in 2010.
