Blue Jackets to participate in annual Traverse City prospects tournament
COLUMBUS, OHIO — The Columbus Blue Jackets will begin preparations for the 2013-14 National Hockey League season at the Annual NHL Prospect Tournament, which will be held from September 5-9 at the Center Ice Arena in Traverse City, Michigan. The 24 players participating in the tournament will undergo physicals and fitness testing on Wednesday, September 4 before departing for Traverse City that day.
This year will mark Columbus’ 12th-straight appearance at the tournament. The Blue Jackets won the tournament championship in 2006 and 2007. This year’s participating clubs will be divided into the following: TED LINDSAY DIVISION – Columbus, Buffalo Sabres, Carolina Hurricanes and New York Rangers; and GORDIE HOWE DIVISION – Dallas Stars, Detroit Red Wings, Minnesota Wild and St. Louis Blues. Practice sessions and tournament games will be held on the facility’s two sheets of ice – David’s Rink and West Rink – located at 1544 Hammond Road, Traverse City, Michigan, 49686 (Phone – 231/933-7465).

The Blue Jackets’ rookie camp roster will feature 24 players, including 14 who were selected by the club via the NHL Draft. Leading the group will be three of the club’s top picks in the last three NHL Drafts – 2013 first round pick Kerby Rychel, 2012 first round pick Ryan Murray and 2011 second round pick Boone Jenner. Other drafted players participating in the tournament include: 2013 - Oliver Bjorkstrand, Dillon Heatherington, Nick Moutrey; 2012 – Josh Anderson, Gianluca Curcuruto, Oscar Dansk; 2011 – Lukas Sedlak; 2010 – Austin Madaisky, Dalton Smith; 2009 – Thomas Larkin; 2007 – Jake Hansen.
The Blue Jackets rookies will be coached in Traverse City by Brad Larsen, head coach of the club’s American Hockey League affiliate Springfield Falcons. He will be assisted by Falcons Assistant Coaches Nolan Pratt and Jared Bednar.
Blue Jackets veterans and rookies will open the club’s 13th training camp with medicals and fitness testing on Wednesday, September 11. The first day of on ice workouts is scheduled for the following day with the preseason opener vs. the Pittsburgh Penguins on Sunday, September 15. The club opens the regular season on Friday, October 4, at home against the Calgary Flames.
