Foligno brothers face off in Columbus

Nick Foligno won't just be battling the Buffalo Sabres in tonight's game at Nationwide Arena - he will also be battling someone he knows very well: his little brother.

Marcus Foligno, the younger of the two brothers by about three years, has spent the past two NHL seasons as a left wing for the Sabres and broke through as a regular NHL player last season at the age of 22.

"We talked about it as kids when we were playing street hockey out on the streets. It'll be fun to play against him. He's obviously enjoying his time there and it'll be nice to see where he's at. Hopefully we'll get an upper hand on him."

Aside from tonight being a family reunion of sorts, Nick Foligno is looking forward to seeing his first action of the 2013-14 NHL preseason.

"It's always fun to get into games," Nick Foligno told BlueJackets.com. "I was jealous of the guys playing the first game. It's always nice to get the jitters out a bit and get back into hockey mode. It'll be fun tonight."

Nick Foligno has a few things he wants to accomplish and work on tonight, including using his speed, agility and maintaining a high energy to motivate his teammates.

"I'm looking to getting my feet moving," said Foligno. "It's my first game and it's about getting accustomed to everything again. I'll make some good solid plays out there, get the physicality going and get back into hockey mode."

Tonight's exhibition game at Nationwide Arena is part of a split-squad contest; one group of players will face the Sabres at Nationwide, while the other group heads to St. Paul, Minn. to play the Wild.
