UPDATE (12:00 PM): Sergei Bobrovsky starts in goal for the Blue Jackets tonight, while Jimmy Howard is the expected starter for Detroit.
UPDATE (11:45 AM): No lineup changes at forward or on defense tonight, Todd Richards said this morning. Cam Atkinson remains a healthy scratch. Nikita Nikitin made his return last night in Dallas after missing one game with an upper body injury.
MORNING SKATE: First off, our thoughts remain with Rich Peverley and the Dallas Stars organization after a scary incident last night at American Airlines Center. The Blue Jackets have returned home and will face the Red Wings tonight, and though they will not hold a formal morning skate, we'll have game day coverage for you right here at Game Day Central. Also, look for lineup changes, thoughts on the match-up against the Red Wings, storylines from the other side and an interview with coach Todd Richards. Stay tuned to this page for the latest!
One of the hardest things to do after an emotional event like both the Blue Jackets and Stars experienced last night is just to play hockey. They'll both get back at it tonight, with the Blue Jackets facing a tough challenge at home against Detroit.
Do not expect any lineup changes at forward or on defense for Columbus tonight against the Red Wings. It's expected that Sergei Bobrovsky will receive his scheduled start in goal, but Richards will give official word following an 11 a.m. team meeting.
The Blue Jackets are going to gather as a team at Nationwide Arena on Tuesday morning, gather their thoughts and prepare to play a pivotal game in the standings race against the Red Wings.
There are players, coaches and management within the Blue Jackest organization who have close ties to Rich Peverley, and there's no question that Monday's frightening events have deeply affected them. After landing in Columbus overnight, they'll try to re-focus for a big game on home ice against a team that's as desperate for points as they are.
Detroit has been up and down this season, but as one would expect, the Red Wings are playing their best hockey as the ground starts to thaw. Despite playing without Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg, the Red Wings are scoring at a high clip and recently put up seven goals against the usually-stingy New Jersey Devils. In that game, Detroit was led by newcomer David Legwand, who tallied four points alongside Johan Franzen, who has been shooting a lot of pucks and scoring goals in bunches.
It's a tall task for the Blue Jackets tonight, but they've gathered themselves after a ragged performance last week in Chicago. They were sound defensively and structurally in Nashville to pick up a 1-0 victory, and they will need a similar effort to combat the Red Wings' attack on Tuesday night.
