MORNING SKATE:
Hello and happy game day, friends! The Blue Jackets are back after a day off and they'll take on the San Jose Sharks tonight at Nationwide Arena. The team is scheduled for a 10am morning skate, and as always, we'll have game day coverage for you right here at Game Day Central. Also, look for lineup changes, thoughts on the match-up against the Sharks, storylines from the other side and an interview with coach Todd Richards. Stay tuned to this page for the latest!

Coming off an emotional victory over the Red Wings on Tuesday night, the Blue Jackets are looking at a minor tweak or two to their lineup for Thursday's game against San Jose.

Blake Comeau was suspended two games for boarding Detroit defenseman Brendan Smith, which means he's ineligible for the team's next two dates (vs. San Jose, at Minnesota). It's possible that Cam Atkinson could find his way back into the lineup, and don't forget about recent acquisition Matt Frattin.

Sergei Bobrovsky is expected to start in goal for Columbus.

It was hard not to be impressed with the way the Blue Jackets rebounded after a poor start against Detroit, and dominated the final two periods en route to a 4-1 victory.

This is a young team that's found itself squarely in the playoff race, and they could have gone "deer in headlights" after the Red Wings applied heavy amounts of early pressure on Tuesday night. Shots were 18-8 Detroit in the first period and Bobrovsky had to be outstanding (thankfully, he was), but once all four lines got involved and the forecheck was established, it became a different game and one that was controlled by the Jackets.

On deck is another high-octane, skilled opponent in the San Jose Sharks. The Sharks have been red-hot this season and are in a race with the Anaheim Ducks for the top spot in the Pacific Division, coming off a convincing 6-2 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs a couple of nights ago. This year's edition of the Sharks might be the most dangerous yet, with Joe Pavelski scoring goals in bunches and the goaltending situation healthier than ever with Antti Niemi and Alex Stalock on top of their games.

Sharks coach Todd McLellan's young defense is growing up fast, and guys like Jason Demers and Justin Braun are key components of their mobile and skilled back end. You know the names Joe Thornton, Patrick Marleau, Logan Couture and Dan Boyle, but there are other young Sharks who've grabbed hold of the rope and are pulling more than their own weight.

This is a tall task for the Blue Jackets, but they've been exceptional on home ice. It's an inter-conference game, mind you, but two important points are up for grabs as they look to close in on the New York Rangers and second place in the Metropolitan Division.
