Blue Jackets recall Collins, place Calvert on IR
COLUMBUS, OHIO -- The Columbus Blue Jackets have recalled forward Sean Collins from the American Hockey League’s Springfield Falcons, club General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen announced today. Columbus has also placed forward Matt Calvert on Injured Reserve retroactive to October 10. Calvert sustained a lower body injury during Columbus’ 4-1 road win over Buffalo on that date.
Collins, 24, appeared in five games with the Blue Jackets last season and recorded five blocked shots in addition to three hits and six penalty minutes. The 6-1, 198-pound center has tallied 12-24-36 and a +19 plus/minus rating in 75 career AHL games with Springfield.
Columbus’ ninth pick, 187th overall, at the 2008 NHL Draft, Collins turned pro on March 29, 2012 after spending four seasons with the Cornell Big Red (ECAC/NCAA). He registered 30-26-56 during his 136-game collegiate career.
Calvert, 23, has recorded seven hits, two takeaways and four shots on goal in three appearances thus far on the 2013-14 campaign. He has tallied 20-19-39 in 100 career NHL games, all with the Blue Jackets. Columbus selected the 5-11, 187-pound left winger in the fifth round, 127th overall, at the 2008 NHL Draft.
