Columbus Blue Jackets Present Military Appreciation Night on Saturday, November 9th

The Columbus Blue Jackets will salute those who have served or are currently serving in the nation’s armed forces during the club’s Military Appreciation Night on Saturday, November 9 when the Jackets host the New York Islanders at Nationwide Arena. Game time is 7 p.m. Over 850 active military members and their families will be in attendance as a result of the generousity of our season ticket holders and a matching donation by the Blue Jackets organization. The night will feature several tributes, recognition of all branches of service and a charitable auction of newly designed camouflage-style jerseys worn by the Blue Jackets players during pre-game warm-ups.

Before the game, the 338th U.S. Army Band will entertain fans on the concourse. They will then perform the National Anthem at ice level, during which 24 Airmen from Wright-Patterson Air Force Base will unfurl a 50-foot American flag on the ice. The Airmen, along with a larger group coming from Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, will be guests of the Blue Jackets. The majority of the 61-person group will make the round-trip from Dayton to Columbus in the new FOX Sports Ohio Blue Jackets Fan Express bus. Also that night, several active-duty military members and their families representing the USO of Central & Southern Ohio will have the opportunity to watch pre-game warm-ups from the penalty boxes and will be treated to rides on the Zamboni® ice resurfacing machine.

As a way to show the organization's support and gratitude for all active and retired service members, the Blue Jackets players will wear specially designed camouflage-style jerseys during pre-game warm-ups on Saturday, November 9. The complete set of authentic worn jerseys will be individually autographed by the respective players and will be available for bidding in a silent auction located on the arena’s Bud Light Terrace during the games on Thursday, November 7 and Saturday, November 9. Every jersey will have a starting bid of $150 with bids being accepted through the second intermission of the November 9 game. Proceeds from the auction will be split between the Blue Jackets Foundation and the USO of Central & Southern Ohio.

On this night, the participating charity for the Blue Jackets Foundation’s 50/50 Raffle will be Operation Buckeye, a local organization dedicated to sending troops care packages containing food and snacks, personal hygiene items, reading materials and messages of support. Also throughout the evening, fans are encouraged to visit concourse displays hosted by military organizations such as Defending the Blue Line, Veterans Crisis Line, Habitat for Humanity Veterans Build, Operation Buckeye, and USO of Central & Southern Ohio.
