COLUMBUS, OHIO ---
The Columbus Blue Jackets have added goaltender Jeremy Smith to the roster on emergency recall from the American Hockey League’s Springfield Falcons, club General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen announced today. The club also announced that goaltender Curtis McElhinney, who left Thursday’s game at the New York Rangers after the first period, is day-to-day due to a lower body injury and defenseman James Wisniewski has been placed on Injured Reserve retroactive to December 6. Wisniewski suffered an upper body injury on that date during a 4-0 home win over Minnesota.

Smith, 24, is 11-3-1 with a 2.58 goals-against-average and a .908 save percentage in 15 games with the Falcons this season and currently ranks second in the AHL in wins. Nashville’s second pick, 54th overall, at the 2007 NHL Draft, Smith was signed by Columbus this past summer after spending three seasons with the AHL’s Milwaukee Admirals. He has a career AHL record of 77-49-8 with a 2.39 GAA, .916 SV% and eight shutouts in 143 games with Milwaukee and Springfield.

A native of Dearborn, Michigan, Smith represented the United States at the 2008 IIHF World Junior Championships, registering four wins, a 2.40 GAA and .894 SV% in six games. As a member of the Ontario Hockey League’s Plymouth Whalers in 2007-08, Smith was the co-recipient of the Dave Pinkney Trophy in recognition of having recorded the league’s lowest team GAA and also captured the J. Ross Robertson Cup as OHL champs. In his first season of professional hockey (2009-10), Smith backstopped the ECHL’s Cincinnati Cyclones to a Kelly Cup Championship.
