February 13, 2013: We begin our showcase of the top Blue Jackets moments of 2013 with the addition of a key "brick," as John Davidson would say.
The Blue Jackets made history in February of 2013 by hiring Kekalainen, who became the first European-born general manager in NHL history. After getting his visa in order, Kekalainen traveled to the United States from his previous job in Finland and saw his new team play for the first time on Feb. 21 in Detroit, and it was a thrilling 3-2 win in the final seconds of regulation.
Since his hiring on Feb. 13, the Blue Jackets own a record of 37-28-9 and that includes their 19-5-5 run to end the 2012-13 season.
