Blue Jackets recall Jonathan Marchessault from Springfield Falcons
COLUMBUS, OHIO -- The Columbus Blue Jackets have recalled forward Jonathan Marchessault from the American Hockey League’s Springfield Falcons and placed forward Matt Calvert on Injured Reserve (upper body) retroactive to December 21, club General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen announced today. Following last night’s game at Colorado, the club added forward Ryan Craig to the roster on emergency recall.
Marchessault, 23, has appeared in 31 games with Springfield this season and currently leads the Falcons in goals (12), assists (14) and points (26). He has recorded 56-99-155 and a +20 plus/minus rating in 180 career AHL games with Springfield and Connecticut. The 5-8, 184-pound forwarded skated in two games with the Blue Jackets last season, registering one hit and one takeaway in 21:53 of action.
A native of Cap-Rouge, Quebec, Marchessault played four seasons with the Quebec Remparts of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League from 2007-11. He totaled 98-141-239, 188 penalty minutes and a +93 rating in 254 career QMJHL games.
Calvert, 24, has tallied 4-4-8 in 17 games with Columbus this season and 24-23-47 in 114 career NHL games, all with the Blue Jackets. He was Columbus’ fifth pick, 127th overall, at the 2008 NHL Draft.
The Blue Jackets return to action on Thursday when they visit Phoenix for a 9 p.m. ET showdown with the Coyotes.
