By The Numbers: Blue Jackets vs. Hurricanes
A statistical breakdown of the March 18 game between the Columbus Blue Jackets and Carolina Hurricanes at Nationwide Arena.

Welcome to By The Numbers. Here, we'll break down the most important facts, figures and statistics from that night's game. Despite the final score, there's more to the game's story than the numbers on the scoreboard.

Here's a look at some of the most notable statistics and numbers from the Blue Jackets' 3-1 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes at Nationwide Arena:

0 - Shots on goal for the Hurricanes in the third period. They recorded five shots in the first 20 minutes and 15 in the second.

1 - Shot on goal for the Hurricanes was all it took for them to get the puck in the net and on the scoreboard. Nathan Gerbe beat Bobrovsky on an odd-man rush in the first period.

4 - Shifts played by Hurricanes defenseman Ryan Murphy before he left the game with an upper-body injury. Blake Comeau hit him hard 10:08 into the first period, but was not penalized on the play.

4 - Starts for the Blue Jackets fourth line (Blake Comeau, Derek MacKenzie, Mark Letestu) in five games.

9 - Hits tonight for Blue Jackets forward Corey Tropp, which was a career high. As a team, the Jackets registered 46 hits.

11 - Days until the Hurricanes and Blue Jackets meet again for the fifth and final time this year: March 29 in Raleigh.

18 - Blue Jackets--all skaters--recorded shot attempts in tonight's game. David Savard was the only player who did not record a shot on goal and James Wisniewski led the team with six.

19 - Shots on goal for the Blue Jackets in the third period, which was also the shot differential in the final 20 minutes of play.

47 - Shots on goal for the Blue Jackets--their highest shot total this season. Their previous season high was Dec. 6 against the Wild, a game the Jackets won 4-0.

50 - The number of seconds Anton Khudobin and the Hurricanes were away from their first shutout against the Blue Jackets in franchise history. Boone Jenner scored to spoil Khudobin's 46-save performance at that point in the game, a career high save count for the 'Canes netminder.
