Ryan Johansen named NHL's 3rd Star of the Week of Apr. 7-13
COLUMBUS, OHIO – Columbus Blue Jackets center Ryan Johansen has been named the National Hockey League’s Third Star of the Week for the period ending April 13, the League and club announced today. Tampa Bay goaltender Anders Lindback was named First Star, while Anaheim Ducks goaltender John Gibson was the Second Star selection.
Johansen scored two goals and added four assists for six points with two game-winning goals, 20 shots on goal and a +2 plus/minus rating, while picking up points in all four games last week. He scored the game-winning goal in overtime, added an assist and fired off eight shots on goal in a 4-3 win over Phoenix on Apr. 8; collected assists in back-to-back games at Dallas on Apr. 9 and Tampa Bay on Apr. 11; and scored the game-winner and added an assist in a 3-1 win at Florida on Apr. 12.
Johansen, 21, became the third player in Blue Jackets history to reach the 30-goal plateau (Rick Nash, Geoff Sanderson) as he collected 33-30-63 with 43 PIM and a +3 plus/minus rating in 82 games this season. He led the club in goals (11th-T in NHL), points, shots on goal (237), face-off wins (692), first goals (8), multi-point games (16) and game-winning goals (5-tied).
The Blue Jackets return to action on Wednesday when they open the 2014 Stanley Cup Playoffs against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Game 1 of the best-of-seven series is set for 7:30 p.m. ET at the CONSOL Energy Center. The game will be televised live by NBC Sports Network and broadcast live on the Blue Jackets Radio Network, including flagship station Sports Radio 97.1 The Fan in Columbus and online at BlueJackets.com.
