Blue Jackets have four participants in the 2014 IIHF World Championship
COLUMBUS, OHIO -- The 2014 IIHF World Championships get underway in Minsk, Belarus on Friday with four members of the Columbus Blue Jackets set to participate in the tournament. Goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky and forward Artem Anisimov will both represent Russia at the event, while defenseman Tim Erixon will compete for Team Sweden and defenseman Thomas Larkin will compete for Team Italy.
Bobrovsky, 25, has previously represented Russia at the 2014 Olympics, the 2008 World Junior Championships and the 2007 Canada-Russia Super Series. Last year’s winner of the Vezina Trophy as the NHL’s best goalie has amassed a record of 95-54-21 with a 2.46 goals-against-average and .919 save-percentage in 179 career games with the Blue Jackets and Philadelphia Flyers. He won a career-high 32 games in 2013-14 and recorded a career-high five shutouts in 58 appearances.
Anisimov, 25, won a Silver Medal with Team Russia at the 2010 World Championships. He also represented his country at the 2014 Olympics, 2013 World Championships, 2008 (Bronze) and 2007 (Silver) World Junior Championships as well as the 2007 Canada-Russia Super Series and 2006 World U18 Championships. The 6-4, 198 lb. center has appeared in 360 career NHL games with the Blue Jackets and Rangers, tallying 165 points on 79 goals and 85 assists. He scored a career-high 22 goals in 2013-14.
Erixon, 23, won a Silver Medal with Team Sweden at the 2011 World Championships in Slovakia. He also represented Sweden at the World Junior Championships in both 2010 (Bronze) and 2009 (Silver) as well as the 2008 World U18 Championships at which he was named a First Team All-Star and the 2007 U18 Junior World Cup (Gold). The 6-2, 200-lb. blueliner has tallied 0-7-7 and a +4 plus/minus rating in 51 career NHL games with the Blue Jackets and Rangers. He has also registered 13-86-99 in 131 career AHL games with the Springfield Falcons and Connecticut Whale.
Larkin, 23, has previously represented Italy at the World Championships in 2012 and 2011 (D1A – Gold Medal) as well as the U18 World Championships in 2008 (D1A) and 2008 (D1A). Columbus’ fourth pick, 137th overall, at the 2009 NHL Draft, Larkin recently completed his first full season of professional hockey, appearing in 19 games with Springfield (0-2-2, +8) and 33 contests with the ECHL’s Evansville Icemen (3-17-20, +2).
