NHL Draft Profile: Dylan Larkin
Get to know 2014 NHL Draft prospect Dylan Larkin of the USNTDP.

No matter where Dylan Larkin is on the ice, he’s competing hard.

Larkin’s willingness to crash the net in the offensive zone and take on any defensive assignment has placed him in the top 30 on many draft boards.

The Michigan native has spent the last two seasons with the United States National Team Development Program (USNTDP) in Ann Arbor, where he suited up for both the U-17 and U-18 squads. Larkin accumulated 56 points on 31 goals and 25 assists in 60 appearances last season for the U-18 team.

Larkin also played a vital role in the team’s gold medal run in the U-18 Five Nations Tournament with two goals and two assists in six games. He also accumulated a +3 rating in the tournament.

A quick look at his stat lines and it’s easy to tell that Larkin is the kind of player that can be both an aggressor and a facilitator. Larkin has drawn praise for agile skating that allows him the choice to dump it off to a teammate in the offensive zone or take matters into his own hands.

While Larkin’s speed has impressed many, he is not known as the type to dazzle with jaw-dropping puck-handling and flashy goals. Rather, he has a keen sense to put the puck in areas where he and his teammates have the best chance to produce scoring chances.

NCAA powerhouses have also taken notice: the left winger from Detroit has signed a letter of intent to play at the University of Michigan.

Here’s what Chris Dilks of SBNCollegeHockey.com had to say about Larkin:

“He’s a smooth skater that is very strong on his skates, and while he’s not as flashy as Schmaltz, he was nearly as effective in terms of creating offense. He plays like a pro player already. There’s become a bit of a bias against NCAA players in the first round of the which could push Larkin towards the very edge of the first round, but he’ll be a steal for whichever team takes him.”
