The time to join the battle is now
More than 400 fans filed through the doors at Nationwide Arena on Saturday for the team’s first ‘select-a-seat’ open house of the summer, giving them an early opportunity to purchase season ticket plans and check out potential seat locations for the upcoming season.
Current season ticket holders were able to relocate their seats to a different location based on what is still available for the 2014-15 season, which figures to be one of the most anticipated campaigns in franchise history.
The open house event was scheduled earlier that it has ever been in the past, as the buzz around the Blue Jackets is at an all-time high with excitement from the 2014 Stanley Cup Playoffs and a franchise-best season in wins (43) and points (93).
“Given the level of interest in the team and the number of season ticket packages that we’ve been selling, we’re really trying to encourage the fans to get on early and lock in the best available seats,” Blue Jackets Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer John Browne said. “Normally our first select-a-seat event is the draft party in late June, so this was a little early for us and we weren’t really sure what to expect.”
Although this year’s event was held earlier in the offseason, the excitement from last season and the eagerness for fans to get back to the arena for another Blue Jackets’ home game brought a great turnout, Browne said.
Blue Jackets defenseman Fedor Tyutin was present at the event, and he signed autographs for a line of fans that circled halfway around the arena’s main concourse.
“Saturday was a beautiful day, the Belmont was later in the day, and the Stanley Cup Final was later in the day, so there was a lot going on in the market,” Browne said. “People had a lot of options to stay outdoors and do things. Nevertheless, people came out in strong numbers, which is just another indication of the level of excitement and optimism that’s in place right now for the team, which is really exciting for all of us.”
The Blue Jackets have now sold close to 2,000 new ticket plans for the upcoming season, and on the heels of strong season ticket sales the previous summer, fans have shown that there’s no time like the present to join the battle.
“The demand is high, interest is high, so the best opportunity to lock in the best seat locations is now,” Browne said. “The 2014-15 season schedule will come out (soon), and we usually see a strong lift in our sales once that happens. Now is the time to kind of get ahead of the pack and put their stake in the ground before that happens.
“The momentum, the excitement, the interest level definitely grew as the season progressed last season, and then obviously into the playoffs. As the season went on, we definitely saw more and more fans getting on board, more and more of those 'casual fans' that don't follow the team as closely. As the team got more successful and more was being talked about in the local media, they began to get more focused on the team and get more interested. I think that will continue; we’re definitely a team that’s on the rise, our future is very bright, and I think the fans recognize that.”This is just another step in the battle -- be part of it!
