Blue Jackets prospects Sonny Milano, Ryan Collins and Dillon Heatherington participating in World Junior team summer camps

COLUMBUS, OHIO – Columbus Blue Jackets prospects Sonny Milano, Ryan Collins (Team USA) and Dillon Heathertington (Team Canada) are currently taking part in their respective national junior teams’ summer camps in hopes of competing at the 2015 IIHF World Junior Championships in Montreal, Quebec and Toronto, Ontario. Milano and Collins are among the 27 players remaining at the 2014 USA Hockey National Junior Evaluation Camp in Lake Placid, New York while Heatherington is one of 12 defensemen participating in Team Canada’s National Junior Team Summer Development Camp in Sherbrooke, Quebec.

Milano, 18, was Columbus’ first pick, 16th overall at the 2014 NHL Draft. The soon-to-be Boston College freshman spent the past two years with the United States National Team Development Program in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Last season, the 6-0, 183-pound left winger scored 24 goals and dished out 48 assists for 72 points in 50 games played for the USNDP Juniors (USHL).

A native of Massapequa, New York, Milano won gold with Team USA at the 2014 IIHF Under-18 Championships, recording 3-7-10 in seven tournament appearances. He also helped the Americans capture bronze at the 2013 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge at which he registered 4-6-10 in six games played.

Collins, 18, was the Jackets’ second pick, 47th overall, at this year’s entry draft. The Bloomington, Minnesota native collected four goals and 10 assists for 14 points with 40 penalty minutes in 107 games over the past two seasons with the USNDP. He tallied 1-6-7 in 59 games during the 2013-14 campaign, including 0-2-2 in seven games to help Team USA win gold at the 2014 IIHF Under-18 World Championships. The 6-5, 202-pound defenseman is expected to attend the University of Minnesota this fall.

Heatherington, 19, was selected by Columbus in the second round, 50th overall, at the 2013 NHL Draft. The 6-3, 200-pound blueliner has spent the past three seasons with the Western Hockey League’s Swift Current Broncos where he has tallied 12-60-72 and a +51 plus/minus rating in 199 career games.

A native of Calgary, Alberta, Heatherington won gold with Team Canada at the 2013 World Under-18 Junior World Cup. He also won a bronze medal with Team Alberta at the 2011 Canada Winter Games, registering 0-4-4 in six tournament appearances.
