TYLER WRIGHT, Director of Amateur Scouting
Tyler Wright

Former Columbus Blue Jackets center Tyler Wright rejoined the organization’s hockey operations department in July 2007 when he was named development coach for the club. He was named director of amateur scouting & development coach in August 2011. In his role, he oversees the club’s amateur scouting efforts with Director of Amateur Scouting Paul Castron.

Wright was selected by Columbus in the 2000 Expansion Draft and spent four-plus seasons with the club. He registered 57 goals and 51 assists for 108 points with 436 penalty minutes in 309 games as a Blue Jacket and ranks second on the club in career hat tricks (two), sixth in penalty minutes and ninth in games played. He also served as an alternate captain during the 2000-01, 2001-02 and 2003-04 seasons. His best campaign was the inaugural 2000-01 season when he posted a career-high 16-16-32 and a team-leading 140 penalty minutes.

He appeared in 613 games in 13 NHL seasons, tallying 79-70-149 and 854 penalty minutes with the Blue Jackets, Anaheim Ducks, Pittsburgh Penguins and Edmonton Oilers. Edmonton’s first pick, 12th overall, in the 1991 NHL Entry Draft, he also represented Team Canada at the 1992 and 1993 (gold medal) World Junior Championships and 2002 World Championships.

Wright was born on April 6, 1973 in Kamsack, Saskatchewan. He and his wife, Christina, are the parents of daughters, Kennady and Ava, and son, Tanner. The family resides in Vernon, British Columbia.


PAUL CASTRON, Director of Amateur Scouting
Paul Castron

Paul Castron was named the Columbus Blue Jackets' director of amateur scouting on July 21, 2006 and his responsibilities include overseeing all amateur scouting efforts by the club in North America and Europe. He served as the club's director of player development from 2002-06, managing the development of Blue Jackets players and draft picks competing at the junior hockey and collegiate levels as well as progress of any personnel performing in Europe. He was also actively involved in the development process within the club's minor professional affiliate system.

Castron joined the Blue Jackets as an amateur scout in 1999 after spending eight years as a member of the Ottawa Senators scouting staff. He brought invaluable experience in the building and development of an expansion franchise as his tenure with Ottawa included the acquisition of several players who have become NHL standouts, including Alexei Yashin, Marian Hossa and Daniel Alfredsson.

Castron played four seasons of college hockey at St. Lawrence University, where he registered 56-86-142 and 135 penalty minutes in 131 career games and earned his degree in sociology. He went on to play professionally in the minor leagues and Europe, including four years as a player/coach in Sweden prior to joining the Senators organization.

He and his wife, Terri, are the proud parents of twins Kuper and Madison. The family resides in Canton, Michigan.

PETER DINEEN, Pro Scout
Pete Dineen

Peter Dineen has served as a pro scout for the Columbus Blue Jackets since 1999. Prior to joining the organization, he served as a professional scout for the Boston Bruins from 1997-99. He spent the previous three seasons as the director of player personnel for the Houston Aeros of the International Hockey League. The Ottawa, Ontario native served a one-year stint as the head pro scout for the Florida Panthers in 1993-94 and also served in scouting roles with the Philadelphia Flyers and Minnesota North Stars.

A former eighth round pick by the Flyers in the 1980 Entry Draft, Dineen spent much of his 11-year career in the AHL and also logged games in the NHL with the Los Angeles Kings and Detroit Red Wings. He comes from a very respected hockey family. His father, Bill, is a longtime scout who served as head coach of the Flyers and World Hockey Association Houston Aeros and won a pair of Stanley Cup championships as a player with the Detroit Red Wings (1954, 1955). His brothers, Kevin, Gord, Shawn and Jerry all played professionally and remain active in the game. He and his wife, Brandi, are the parents of a daughter, Bailey, and reside in Lake George, New York.


SAM McMASTER, Pro Scout
Sam McMaster

Sam McMaster was named a pro scout for the Columbus Blue Jackets in August 2011. He has been a member of the Blue Jackets organization since 1999, serving as an amateur scout prior to his promotion.

A highly respected judge of talent with over 20 years of NHL experience working in hockey operations for several teams, McMaster served as the general manager of the Los Angeles Kings from 1994-97. He also spent many successful years as an administrator in junior hockey. While working in the Ontario Hockey League, he served as the general manager of the Sudbury Wolves and the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds, helping his teams to 10 playoff berths in 11 seasons, three regular season championships and one playoff championship.

A native of Vancouver, British Columbia, he and his wife, Colleen, reside in Vernon, British Columbia.


ANDREW DICKSON, Amateur Scout
Andrew Dickson

Andrew Dickson joined the Columbus Blue Jackets organization as an amateur scout prior to the 2008-09 season after spending nine years as an assistant coach at Colgate University, where his primary responsibilities included working with the forwards and playing a major role in the program's recruiting efforts. During his tenure at Colgate, he helped the Raiders to two NCAA tournament appearances, ECAC Hockey regular season titles in 2004 and 2006 and three straight 20-win seasons for the first time in school history.

Dickson played four seasons at Colgate from 1989-93, serving as team captain and leading the club in scoring as a senior in 1992-93 with 15-28-43 in 34 games. He was also a key member of the 1989-90 team that won the ECAC regular-season and tournament championships and advanced to the NCAA championship game.

He played professional hockey from 1993 to 1999 in several leagues throughout the world, including stints in England and Germany. He then began his coaching career in 1999 at Colgate, where he received a bachelor's degree in economics in 1993. He and his wife, Alison, are the parents of sons, Brock and Shea.


GREG DRECHSEL, Amateur Scout
Greg Drechsel

Greg Drechsel joined the Columbus Blue Jackets as an amateur scout in August 20011 after spending the previous eight years at Clarkson University, most recently serving as associate head coach. During that time he helped the Golden Knights win one ECAC regular season title, a league tournament championship and a pair of berths in the NCAA tournament.

Prior to his arrival at Clarkson, he was a member of the Los Angeles Kings scouting staff from 1996-03, including serving as the assistant director of amateur scouting from 2000-03. He began his coaching career as an assistant at Clarkson from 1989-93 before stints at Miami (Ohio) University in 1993-94 and at the University of Denver from 1994-96.

Drechsel is a 1988 graduate of Colgate University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology and registered 52-78-130 and 216 penalty minutes in 128 career games during his four seasons with the Raiders. He and his wife, Sandy, are the parents of daughters, Madeline and Hannah. The family resides in Potsdam, New York.


MILAN TICHY, European Scout
Milan Tichy Milan Tichy has been a member of the Blue Jackets scouting staff since 1999, serving as a part-time European scout from 1999-2008 before being promoted to full-time amateur scout in 2008. He scouts players in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Finland, Russia, Sweden and Germany. Prior to joining the Blue Jackets, he served as a part-time amateur European scout for the Nashville Predators.

Tichy was the Chicago Blackhawks eighth pick, 153rd overall, in the 1989 Entry Draft. He made his NHL debut in 1992-93 with the Blackhawks. He registered five assists and 40 penalty minutes in 23 career games with the Blackhawks and New York Islanders spanning 1992-1996. A back injury in 1996 forced him to retire from hockey.

Prior to making his NHL debut, Tichy spent four seasons in the International Hockey League from 1991-96, totaling 32-103-135 and 206 penalty minutes in 190 career games with the Indianapolis Ice and Denver Grizzlies. He registered a career high 18-36-54 and 90 penalty minutes in 71 games during the 1994-95 season, including 4-9-13 and 12 penalty minutes in 17 playoff games to help the Grizzlies win the Turner Cup. He spent the 1993-94 season with the Moncton Hawks of the American Hockey League, collecting 1-20-21 and 103 penalty minutes in 48 games, while adding 3-3-6 in 20 playoff games to help the Hawks reach the Calder Cup Final.

Tichy spent the 1987-1991 seasons playing in the Czech Elite League for Plzen and Trencin. He also represented the National Team in 1990-91. In 1989, he helped Team Czechoslovakia win the bronze medal at the World Junior Championships. He was also named to the tournament’s All-Star Team.

Tichy, and his wife, Michaela, are the parents of sons, Jeremy and Nicholas.
