FAQs about Auditions

How do I get invited to auditions?

The Blue Jackets will assess each applicant based on their submitted application. There are a limited number of applicants who will be invited to audition; not all applicants will be invited to audition. Audition invitations will be emailed to the selected applicants on or before Thursday, August 13th

 

What do auditions consist of?

Auditions will consist of interactive group games, improv activities and informal interviews. These activities are meant to assess each candidate’s personality, enthusiasm, energy, teamwork skills and their comfort level in front of a crowd.

 

Can I audition for more than one team?

Yes, applicants are welcome to audition for one or more teams. When you apply, please indicate on the form which teams you would like to be considered for.

For new candidates who are interested in the Scioto Downs Ice Crew, a new program called Summer Skates has been added to the audition process. The Summer Skates are invite-only informal skating sessions at the OhioHealth Chiller Ice Rinks where new Ice Crew candidates can work on their skating and shoveling skills in a comfortable environment. CBJ staff members will be present to answer questions and advise candidates. More information on these Summer Skates will be provided in a bounce back email once you submit your application.. If the Scioto Downs Ice Crew is NOT a team you want to audition for, you do not need to attend the Summer Skates, only the Auditions on August 23rd.

 

What time should I arrive for auditions?

Check in will open at 10:30 AM and candidates are asked to arrive no later than 11:15 AM.

 

What is the timeframe for auditions?

Auditions will begin promptly at 11:30 AM. Auditions are planned to conclude by 2:30 PM.

 

What should I wear to auditions?

Female candidates should wear dance/yoga pants or leggings, midriff-baring sports bra/dance top and athletic footwear
*You must be able to pin a number tag to the front of your top

Male candidates should wear a T-shirt, athletic shorts or pants and athletic footwear

 

When will I find out if I am selected to the teams?

The team selections will be posted here (bluejackets.com/promoteams) on Monday, August 24th at 1:00 PM

If you are selected, you will be required to confirm your position on the team. More details will be posted at that time.

 

What is required of me after I am selected to the teams?

All team members will be required to attend the following mandatory team-related activities:

Team Mixer – Tuesday, August 25th after 5:00 PM
Orientation – Wednesday, September 2nd after 5:00 PM
Photo Shoot – Sunday, September 13th all day

Please make sure these dates are reserved on your calendar if you plan to audition for the teams

What are the Blue Jackets Promotion Teams?

The Blue Jackets Promotion Teams consist of the Pepsi Power Patrol, Scioto Downs Ice Crew and Yuengling Cannon Crew. These three teams participate in the in-game entertainment at all Blue Jackets home games and make appearances in the community.

During home games, the Pepsi Power Patrol members meet and greet guests, find fans to participate in promotions and on-ice contests and distribute prizes.

The Scioto Downs Ice Crew keeps the ice in prime condition during breaks in play and intermissions. Members of the Scioto Downs Ice Crew participate with fans during on-ice contests.

The Yuengling Cannon Crew rallies the fans every time the Blue Jackets score, leading the goal celebrations next to the Blue Jackets Goal Cannon.

What are the requirements to be a Promotion Team member?

Candidates must be 18 years or older by September 1, 2015

Candidates must be teamwork oriented, high-spirited, outgoing, physically fit, comfortable engaging with people of all ages and skilled in interacting with fans

Scioto Downs Ice Crew candidates must have at least an intermediate skating ability and be able to perform ice cleaning duties

Yuengling Cannon Crew candidates must be able to maneuver a large flag

 

What kind of commitment is required if I am selected?

Team members must be able to commit to working a minimum of 22 home games. Team members must be able to arrive at the Nationwide Arena by the following report times:

Pepsi Power Patrol must report 3 hours before game time (4:00pm for a 7:00pm game)
Scioto Downs Ice Crew must report 2 hours before game time (5:00pm for a 7:00pm game)
Yuengling Cannon Crew must report 90 minutes before game time (5:30pm for a 7:00pm game)

What is the compensation for each team?

Based on arrival times and extent of duties, compensation for each team is as follows:

Pepsi Power Patrol – $85 per game
Scioto Downs Ice Crew – $50 per game
Yuengling Cannon Crew – $70 per game

 

What are the team uniforms?

Female Pepsi Power Patrol members wear a midriff top, pants and athletic shoes
Male Pepsi Power Patrol members wear a short-sleeve top, pants and athletic shoes
Female Scioto Downs Ice Crew members wear a figure-fitting dress and skates
Yuengling Cannon Crew members wear a white long-sleeve collared shirt, vest, pants, kepi hat and casual shoes

All uniform items will be provided by the Blue Jackets except for skates for Scioto Downs Ice Crew members. Uniform items that are provided remain property of the Blue Jackets and must be returned at the conclusion of the 2015-16 season.
