EDITOR'S NOTE:
You've arrived at the inaugural edition of the CBJ Power Rankings, our weekly breakdown of the top-five players, statistics, trends and many other Blue Jackets-related categories. If you're looking for the traditional power rankings, you've come to the wrong place. We'll go in-depth and outside the box, and hopefully, give you something to think about.

For our maiden power rankings voyage, we're going to take a look at the Blue Jackets forwards. As you're aware, the team has suffered some significant injuries up front and while it has made for a depleted lineup on some nights, opportunities have opened up for the organization's younger players.

Who are the Blue Jackets' time on ice (TOI) leaders among forwards, and what are they bringing to the table?

RYAN JOHANSEN
AVERAGE TOI/GAME: 17:53
2013-14: 27 GP, 10-9-19 (-5)

In the wake of multiple injuries up front, one of the bright spots this season has been the emergence of Johansen into a top-flight, top-six center in this league. He's currently anchoring the No. 1 line, centering the Blue Jackets' No. 1 power play unit and seeing increased time on the penalty kill in this, his third NHL season. Johansen is the team's scoring leader (19 points), its goal-scoring leader (10), and has averaged over 19 minutes in his last four games. Also of note: his face-off numbers, which have climbed to second-best on the Blue Jackets and 28th-best in the entire NHL at 53.1 percent. His increased offensive production has really helped the Blue Jackets stay balanced while they wait for some of their injured forwards to get back in the lineup, and at full strength, his accelerated development could provide a solid source of secondary offense as we get deeper into the season.
