Dear Blue Jackets Fans,
What a ride! The 2013-14 season of Columbus Blue Jackets hockey was the best and most exciting in franchise history. The team won more games, registered more points, scored more goals (and doled out more hits) than in any other season in the club's 14-year history.
Like any 82-game season, this year was filled with a lot of ups and downs. There were heartbreaking losses and thrilling wins. We had a tough first month and won eight-straight games in January. But through it all, there was a common thread of resiliency and determination to play harder and to play better… to play Blue Jackets hockey. That was evident on the ice and it was evident at Nationwide Arena as you, The 5th Line, stood "shoulder to shoulder" with us every step of the way.
The youngest team in the NHL made its Eastern Conference debut and earned a berth in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. We battled the Metropolitan Division champion Pittsburgh Penguins to the very end in a hard-fought, thrilling six-game playoff series. Although the season ended sooner than any of us wanted, we are already excited about what lies ahead.
The future has never been brighter because as an organization and hockey community we have never been more unified. A talented young team, experienced, respected leaders and coaches, and passionate, enthusiastic fans is a hard combination to beat.
On behalf of our ownership group, players, coaches, and staff, we thank you. When the eyes of the hockey world were on us, you exemplified what the city of Columbus, our state and our team are all about… heart, determination, work ethic and pride. And this is just the beginning! We'll see you at Nationwide Arena in the fall when we come together again and resume this special journey that provided so many great memories over the past year.
