Blue Jackets-Avalanche Preview

GAME: Columbus Blue Jackets (10-22-4-3) at Colorado Avalanche (20-10-7-1).

TIME: Tuesday, 9 p.m. EST.

Gerard Gallant led the Columbus Blue Jackets to a rare road win in his coaching debut last week. He will now try to do something none of his predecessors could -- beat the Colorado Avalanche.

Colorado looks to remain unbeaten in 14 all-time meetings with Columbus when the teams meet for the second time this season.

The Avs routed the Blue Jackets in Denver on Dec. 6, beating them 5-1 to improve to 12-0-1 all-time in the series. Colorado is 7-0 at home and has scored five or more goals seven times against Columbus.

Gallant took over the team Thursday when team president and general manager Doug MacLean gave up the coaching duties.

Gallant led the Blue Jackets to a 2-0 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning in his debut on Friday, giving Columbus just its second road win in 16 games this season.

The Blue Jackets played another strong defensive game on Saturday, but couldn't muster any offense despite posting 42 shots on goal in losing 1-0 to the Florida Panthers in the second game of their seven-game road trip.

"If we score on a couple of our chances, we are in a totally different game," said Columbus forward Rick Nash, who leads the NHL with 23 goals.

Columbus will be trying to end its skid against a Colorado team that has won three straight and has just one loss in its last seven games.

The Avs tied their season-high winning streak on Sunday with a 3-1 victory at home over the Minnesota Wild.

Peter Forsberg had a goal and assist as Colorado won despite not having captain Joe Sakic on the ice. Sakic broke his jaw against Calgary last Wednesday and played Friday in Vancouver with a full visor and football-type face mask.

He missed Sunday's game after having minor surgery Saturday, but said he anticipated playing Tuesday night against Columbus.

"We played together," Avs defenseman Adam Foote said when asked about the loss of Sakic. "We're playing how we're going to have to play to beat any opponent. That takes discipline and focus. It sounds boring but everyone did their job."
